TAKE A
Landed in Da Nang for the start of our two week vacation. Getting through immigration was pretty straight forward and took less than 30 minutes. Once you clear immigration you pick up your checked baggage and head to luggage check. Checking of luggage is random xray scan and we were not selected. Once outside, you will be hit with many taxi and Grab offers. The Grab offers are only slightly legit. They will offer a Grab ride, but if they enter your location (they are not actually completing the transaction in Grab, only making it look like it), you can’t pay through the Grab app so cash or credit card. The price seemed to match pretty well, so overall not a huge deal. I am guessing they like to do this to get around the fees paid to Grab and make more themselves. Stayed at the Cani Beach House in the An Hai area of Da Nang for two nights.
TAKE B
For the first time in Vietnam or Asia for that matter, the Cani Beach Hotel is a bit outside of the main tourist area. Perfectly safe, just a bit more real. Nice hotel, room overlooked the ocean and had a small deck to sit outside on. Beach was 200 feet away. Crazy how the locals are up at 5am, swimming or exercising on the beach. Found a nice coffee place around the corner, Tiệm Coffee Totto-chan. Vietnam takes a minute to get use to. Traffic is crazy, motorbikes everywhere, seems like no real rules, and the side walks always have construction motorbikes in the way, so it is easier and more straight forward to walk in the road, but have to keep a constant eye on traffic. Crossing a road is a bit like playing frogger. If you want to wait for a clearing, good luck. You just pick your small gap, watch the traffic and move with purpose and it just seems to part around you. Went for a nice walk / run along the beach /boardwalk.

We took the train again from Hue back to Da Nang. This time staying at the Chicland Danang Beach Hotel, more centrally located in Da Nang. The views from the hotel and roof top pool were fantastic. Great hotel, clean, functional, decent gym, roof top bar / food.
